Devil and the Witch

Devil and the Witch

"My dear" the Devil once hissed
"You shan't but a grassy blade to the tree"
To which the farmer decided she would disagree
"In fact I am quite something"
She spoke so low she growled
"I'm more like a steel blade to that tree!"
The Devil laughed
"You are but a child!"
The Devil slithered closely to her
"Dear... Aren't you scared?"
She simply kept her gaze out front
"And of what do this farm or I do you care?"
He smiled snakily
Leaned down nice and close
"I'm here to slaughter the pigs and sheep"
"I'm here to reap your soul"
She laughed this time at the Devil
She would not back down
"How about a challenge then, like Johnny with those fiddles?"

"I ought to learn my lesson but I think I can beat a little girl"
So the Devil sighed and his eyes became a gaze
"You must find the most beautiful flower in this field,
Be done when the suns finished it's last rays"

So the woman gave a start and the Devil did as well
They ran across the fields
Sure as sure is hell
The flowers ranged in the place
From marigolds to buttercups to peonies to Rose to every race
None were very special
None were very glorious  The farmer simply decided
All she needed was a simple carnation to be victorious
She waited till the sun went down and presented the little scarlet thing
The Devil had a laughing fit
Showed what he had to bring
He brought not a flower, not a single one at all
"Now tell me exactly Devil Sir, do you expect to win at all?"
He shook his head and his eyes took on a glint
"Dear you seem to be appalled, I actually win"
"You see I don't play challenges and Johnny never won"
"I took that time to reap the entirety of your farm"
"You were too busy gazing for a single flower, the farm disappeared around..."
"Now it's your turn, to travel with me the way down!"

The farmer gave a gasp and looked at the blank land
"How unfair! How could you trick me, you scoundrel, you are no man!"
The devil let her vent and he just continued again
"I am not man, I am beast, beast do what is natural, trickery!"
She bit her lip before she attacked him and let her anger fall
"Devil you cannot take me, i tricked you after all!"
The devil raised an eyebrow and scanned all around
"Of what could you mean? Tell me of how?"
She crossed her arms and flicked her fingers like a switch
The farm appeared
She seemed so queer
"How can you be so stupid? You can't steal from a witch"
