Devolution

When I think of humanity
Truthfully I feel somewhat sad
I see a dark enveloping cloud
Within this cloud
There are people
Tossing, turning, fleeing
Cowardice stains their faces
Like lipstick on a coffee cup
There is so much hatred in the world
Hatred, deceit, racism
Like an immovable object it cannot be stopped
The idea to pay it forward
Ah, what a picturesque world that would be
Even the smallest thing can define us
And define the human spirit
Have you ever seen a stranger crying?
Perhaps in the street, on the train;
Maybe a child on a park bench.
How many people would actually stop?
Acknowledgement of my pain was ignored
In one case not acknowledged
We kill each other for materialism's
For land, and for power
There is a blindness among us
A metaphysical blindfold
That hides from us what really matters
Love, Family, Connection, Friendship
We must all reconnect,
This is fast becoming
A devolution
