Died with dignity

Died with dignity

Deteriorating little by little
He was much better yesterday
Diagnosis is unimaginable
Terminally ill the Consultants say

Yet he passed the dreaded deadline
‘He won’t see Christmas’
Is what they said
Well February’s almost over
He defeats the demons
That dwell in his head

24/7 care assistance
Families take turn’s by his bed
At 7.50 am this morning
His carer takes his pulse
She injects his morphine med

Silence shrouds his makeshift restroom
His single bed made up downstairs
He doesn’t mind, nor does he complain
This poorly soul is too weak for cares

At 11,11, Thursay morning
James Mc Cormack peacefully passed
He defied the Doctors
He died with dignity
At eighty seven
His life was a blast
