Digging A Deeper Hole

Humans can be such loving souls
But they can also be mean and malicious
Depending on who will benefit the most
Though the reasons might be fictitious

Devious is the word to describe these souls
Not the most charming of human attributes
Can always say, “we're only human”
But really that's not a very good excuse

As hard as I try to rise above the crowd
I'm no different, I'm part of the scene
Not proud but human nature can dictate
My reaction to events unforeseen

Guess we all are trying our very hardest
To be a kind and real loving souls
We sometimes fall quite short of the mark
And wind up digging a deeper hole
