Dirty Secret

Dirty Secret

I'll let you in on it,
but promise not to judge
I have a wife,
her name's Comparison
Our marrage was arranged
I rarely bring her out in public;
think she is deranged
We have a tight budget
even though she lives off air
and she gets me into trouble
almost everywhere
I see a friend, he's got a car
She says, "We need one too!"
I ignore her 'bout that
but she hasn't got a clue
When I mention I'm hungry
that's when waterworks start
She says I'm such a great man
with a great and biggest heart
She asks why I'm so "bloody broke"
says I deserve more
Points to gorgeous couple,
"How come they have got more?"
And see that guy,
he doesn't work
but smokes, and drinks and gambles!
So how come our clean life,
dear beau,
remains in constant shambles?"
I get depressed
decide to eat
a fancy dinner plate
and justify the vast expense
in philosophical ways
Where does all my money go?
I haven't got a clue!
I work and study, budget hard
still stuck inside a zoo
I've tried to get out of my cage
but never get too far
before I listen to her voice
and take that loan to buy that car
And then I'm back at old square one
and that's my life you see
With Comparison's fine company,
I'm not gunna be free

Al Bikaadi, . I don't know if this is you but I really like this poem.  We all seem to survive under pressure today. Great Work.  Love, Terry Kay

al Bikaadi, We have such different lives but here we are on Cosmo connecting.  I have never known anyone that had an arranged marriage.  Myself been divorced more than once and my Mom would always say don't waste your life with someone you are not happy with.  I bet you wouldn't hear that!  :) Nice to meet you ...I enjoy your work.  Terry Kay

LOL Hi Terry,

Sorry, I should clarify. I am not in an arranged marriage with a real person. Comparison "lives off air", she's just a personification of my collection of envious thoughts.

Thanks Angel,

I picked up the pen (so to speak) after last putting it down in 2011.

I still haven't quite carved out a consistent style but I expect it will come as I continue to let the rhythms of my busy mind subside and distill.

I enjoyed this, wry humour wrapped around an interesting theme, well expressed. Thank you
