Disabled and Epileptic

A Young Man With Epilepsy (Me)

Disabled and Epileptic

A week ago he had two seizures,
Connected with his hemiplegia,
The first, in town,
He was animated
And also he was agitated.

Discharged soon after
To his mother's home
He lay upstairs in bed alone
She heard him have another
Convulsion.

He went again to hospital
Feeling really rather ill.
A brain scan revealed
Old brain damage-
Had from birth:
He'd always managed well.

Discharged after one night
To his mother's home again,
He rested there one more day,
Then felt refreshed, bright and alert,
And so went on his way.

A very raw and honest poem filled with stark description. As a loving mom, I felt mom’s pain and concern throughout! Happy for the positive ending!

Thank you for the feedback and comment.
It was a disconcerting experience, though I've experienced similar things before.

Hi Michael,

I liked how you used the third person point of view. You sound very courageous and strong. In only four stanza's you were able to convey an entire story. Good work!

Favorite part:

He was animated
And also he was agitated
