Distorted Reflection

Looking in the mirror

only seeing flaws

Wishing someone would hear her

and hold her trembling paws

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

But what eyes are hers?

Everyday hoping to lose just one more pound, as if it’s her duty

To be perfect and go hungry, as if

someone is always watching over her shoulder

Telling her what to eat

how skinny to be

Society and images overwhelm her

blurring the self image she sees

The beauty that she is told she possesses seems like a distant dream

She wishes to just be stick-like

Sickly, almost

Like those who are have something to boast

Eat enough to just coast

Too fat, too tall, too honest, too shy

A broken image, of a beautiful girl

Her mind is a dangerous hell

Wanting so badly just to come out of her shell

One day the words, “I am beautiful.”

Will linger from her tongue

Even if it is the last breath in her lung.
