Don't Misunderstand Me

Please don't misunderstand me,
Please don't get me wrong.
Please don't judge before you know me,
Please don't think I'm strong.
Underneath there is a girl,
Insecure, afraid and shy.
Reaching out for approval,
From all she passes by.
I hide behind my demeanour, my attitude, my dress.
I don't let people in easily,
And hide all of my distress.
But for all the people who know me,
For the ones that I've let in.
You will understand my coldness,
You will know the love within.
But sometimes I am moody, cantankerous and glum.
Haven't got time for strangers
And are quite horrible to some.
Sometimes I'm a little obsessive, needy and weak.
That's my insecurities coming out showing life as bleak.
I try to show I'm confident, bold, courageous and brave.
Hiding the want for exceptance that I so greatly crave.
But if you make your way into my heart,
You will be there to stay.
For if I loved you once,
I will love you forever,
Untill my dying day.
So please don't misunderstand me,
Please don't get me wrong.
Please don't judge the way I am,
As I'm just trying to belong.
