The Dream

Have you ever had a dream, so scary and real?

Where it all disappears, or the one where you couldn’t flee?

Where the people have no faces, and the strangers are friends,

The love of your life is either a foe, or is dead.

The place where you visit, or the place that you live, is nowhere you know,

Or nowhere you have been. Perhaps it is

so far away,

that it is not of this planet,

Or not of this age.

Have your dreams ever felt so alive?

You felt the pain, when someone

Lied

Or even died?

When you got in a fight, the knife cut you so deep, the pain you did bleed

Had you moaning in the sheets, the punch that you felt left your eye or ribcage sore. That

When you begged for your life, you felt the cold hard floor?

Did the violence in your dream, a life you did not know,

Become so familiar

You had nowhere to go.

The assailant couldn’t have done it, he was made of plasticine,

Yet the violence, the rape, it felt so real.

Did you ever have a dream, where you longed to wake up?

You pinched yourself so many times,

Your  arm swelled up.

You recited to yourself, “this is only a dream”, but the danger you felt

Was definitely real.

Have you ever had the dream that started so well?

You could fly, you had magic, you weren’t living in hell.

Then the dream changed and you could no longer fly,

You couldn’t cast a spell, you couldn’t cry for help

You try to flee, from the danger behind,

down familiar streets, with familiar signs.

But don’t you open doors, as that won’t end so well.

Have you ever had a dream and didn’t wake up?
