Duet

"Take me by the hand" he'd said
"You might be old but you're not dead.
Put on your shoes and brush your hair
No matter if the neighbours stare.
Put on some lipstick bright and red
And wear a sleeveless dress instead
And don't forget to take your bag
Then pour a drink and have a fag-
Because its party time my dear
With all your friends and family here"
The music played
But I just stayed
And stared instead
Upon my bed.
The covers neat and pillows plump
It's all too easy just to slump.
I hear the laughter from behind
The door whose handle I can't find
And think instead that I might stay
And sleep the people all away.
I fold my glassesΒ
Put them down
My handbag too
My sleeveless gown.
I hear your voice
Still in my head
I might be old but I'm not dead.
I turn to kiss your photo dear
And wished to God that you were here

Wow!! SCARLET!!.... this is a truly compelling piece of poetry..., for several reasons..,,., the timing and rhythm of this is near perfection when read aloud..... with amazing phrasing that charms and saddens at the same time..... those final three lines are BRILLIANT!!...., an absolutely stellar piece of poetic Love, Grace, and Charm!!.....I read this several times and read several lines aloud to Cherie!!.......I PINNED this write for its author to whom I humbly submit......BRAVO!!!......well done dear poet sister!!......LOVE and ROCKETS!!....T xo ?ββ΄β³β₯???
