Echoes in the Heart

Echoes in the Heart

There are lingering echoes in each heartbeat

Which recount lyrics sung to the tune of tears

Spent in longing; an oblation to the heirs

Who might forego their commitment and retreat

Within bounds where vibrations do not repeat

Lone melancholy words dripping suppliant prayers

Of appeal for redemption from what was theirs;

“Love”, a prisoner, sings a dirge of defeat

And flees to such climes which ensconce sorrow

Filtering the blue tints from regret and dejection;

Bereft of a past and the hope of tomorrow.

Yet ready to reclaim that joyous perfection

If you’d offer one meter’s throb to borrow

That sole echo to bring back Love’s affection.

Thank you so much…I really appreciate your compliment.  Sonnets are my favorite poetry form.  I which I could write them like Elizabeth Barrett Browning!
