Edwin the Unicorn

Edwin the Unicorn

Edwin is a unicorn
But there’s something you should know.
Edwin does not have a horn
And it will never grow.

When Mum and Dad took Edwin home
They knew without a doubt
That all the other unicorns
Would stare and tease and shout.

They kept him in their little home
All through the night and day,
But Edwin soon got very bored
Because he couldn’t play.

The days and months and years went past
And Edwin grew up tall.
Finally his parents said
“It’s time to go to school”.

He got dressed up and looked real smart
But something wasn’t right.
For Edwin did not have a horn
And it caused quite a fright!

When Edwin ran into the room
The other kids turned round.
They stopped and stared at Edwin’s head,
And didn’t make a sound.

From that day on he sat and
Read and worked and played alone,
For all the other unicorns
Would leave him on his own.

Edwin knew that everyone
Thought he was very strange,
But there was one who didn’t
And his luck was soon to change.

Ella was a unicorn,
The prettiest of all.
Everyone loved Ella,
The coolest girl at school.

The shine and sparkle of her horn
Was quite a special sight.
All the boys would crowd and swoon
Morning, noon and night.

As Edwin passed she caught his eye
But he began to fumble,
And as he rushed away from her
He took a nasty tumble.

The others laughed at Edwin as he
Lay there on the floor.
Then Ella helped him up
And she was popular no more.

From that day on they sat and
Read and worked and played together.
They soon became the best of friends
And stayed that way forever.

You see, Edwin may not have a horn
And it would never grow,
But he is still a unicorn
And that’s all you need to know.
