Embracing Middle Age

I've reached that point in life
Where I'm embracing middle age:
In much of what I do
I feel I've been here before.

And as time passes
Interests are hardening
Into obsessions
And feara are turningĀ

Into neuroses.
The present has become-
For now-
An unsatisfactory routine.

I'm increasingly unsure of
Whether I'm in control
Of my circumstances
Or whether my circumstances

Control me-
And unsure too
Of which I want it
To be.

In the meantime
Good times with friends
Become fond memories
Ever more distant.

Like a tree, I have my roots
And each new line
On my face seems like
An annual new ring on a tree.
