Extinction Event

That grinding reality you hear
is the device struggling to shift gears.. 

Confirming our worst fears
that the end of the mechanism is near..

And by association the termination of us..

Since we have been transformed
into a cog component
of the machine we created

If only self maintenance
had been taken more seriously
back when we were humming along smoothly...

If only there had been a fall back Plan B
for this day of break down catastrophe..

If only someone had been actually trained
to fix this machine we have become too dependent on

For you see, my soon to be defunct friends
complacency will always get you in the end
if you don't respect the laws of inevitability 
that has accelerated many an extinction event 

I guess Deniers of Bad Outcomes should be our epitaph
