Father's Day

We celebrate
but once a year,
A special day
for Dad we cheer,
He worked so hard
He was gone all day,
When he got home
we'd go out and play,
He'd help me with my homework
He'd take me to my sports,
He'd be my fashion critic
when I wore my denim shorts,
He did the father-daughter dance
and drove me to the Prom,
He gently warned the date I had
a Lady I've become,
He dried my tears and said soft words
to take away my pain,
He understood it hurt me so
In time the love I'd gain,
My dad he walked me down the aisle
as proud as he could be,
He kissed my cheek and squeezed my hand
And then he set me free,
He was there, for my first born
He shed a tear or two,
His little girl a mother now
His job was done, he knew,
My dad was such a loving man
For sure, that I can say,
He's always with me in my heart
Especially Father's Day.

Having just lost my dad to Alzheimer's disease a week and a half ago, this will be the first Father's Day spent without him.
It just won't be the same.
But I have to realize that I have kids of my own, and they still have me.
It's gonna be tough...

My deepest condolences Dean, it's very hard losing anyone close to us. I lost my dad many years ago to alcoholism, but he was a good father none the less. I am sure your kids love you and are happy you are still with them. cherish all the moments xo

I will, Faith, and thanks.
My Dear Faith,
What a beautiful tribute to your dearly departed Father. It brought tears to my eyes, and inspired me to write this comment.
She was the "apple of her Father's eye"
His precious little girl
Throughout the years he held her close
Protected her from the World
.
Then came the day she married
He walked her down the aisle
Inside, his tears were flowing
But outside, he had a smile
.
Then the years passed by so quickly
She became a parent too
But all too soon he had to leave her
Now forever, she will love him true
Love,
Larry xxx
Thank you Larry and your tribute is absolutely beautiful. I am so touched. Xo
