Fear

My stomach is sour, in this dark dark hour; mixed with despair and rage, I reexamine an older page. The book oozes black, and is hotter than coal; inscription says my heart will take the toll.
I missed some un legible words, as if it were old milk; my stomach turns to curds. The text is small, so hard to read; though I read it, and it says "take heed".
"Trust no one, you must; if you do your heart will be turned to rust. They're all a liar; and those evil creatures breathe fire. They are the biggest sin, the name they have is men." So curious, curious indeed; now I feel strange, feel a bitter seed.
I go to sleep and awake in their lair, the only light is as bright as a flare. I cannot see them but they can see me; they rip and claw, then the light brightened, you wouldn't believe what I saw.
I saw a man I loved, and then another; they were embracing each other. I fall to my knees, and beg them please; though they refused to freeze. All the love I thought was mine was not; all the time I loved, it wasn't me he sought.
The cold chill of their actions touched my heart and soul, and my heart truly did take the toll. It froze over, the warmth has died out; I thought I did right, I was so devout.
Called his name, but he didn't hear; I continued to see, and the pain impaled me like an icy spear. I now know one thing's clear, I have once more become a slave to fear.
