First Friend

First Friend

Oh friend of mine
times we've shared
from tiny tots
life first paired

Our imaginationย
learned to dance
fun and games
a fine romance

Making mud pies
playing shops
hide and seek
and hop scotch

Building sand castles
on the beach
sharing wishes
out of reach

Learning lessons
growing wise
precious years passed
in blink of eyes

Teenagers spots
discos boys
oh the times
what true joys

Meeting the one
be at your side
now the changing
of the tide

Our fate's apartย
came the day
that we went
a separate way

Shame good things
have to end
I'll always remember you
my first 'best friend'ย

Oh wow! I like this. Such sweet innocence recalled! This reminds me of one of my friends. I have to pin this for all of us! She and I met in grade school and were the best of friends side by side for years! We are still friends today. We live further apart now and don't see each other like we use too, but are forever friends.ย We went through so much together...discovering, growing up, boys!...graduation, college (same classes), marriages, child births , divorces etc. We helped support each other's hearts. A little girl never forgets her school years best girlfriend....God placed she and I together for sure....This poem brought back some funny memories.....we always have a blast together...Our children are friends as well...My other girlfriends live closer and I see regularly.....but oh my the historyย she and Iย share.......oh the things that girl got me into in my twenties!!!....All I will say is every time I hear a helicopter get too close to a roof, I want to run!!!!!!. (long, hilarious story!)........Thank you Wendy for bringing on a ton of happy, carefree memories! I'm sure all women reading this will agree! Wonderful write!ย ย  Be blessed! Paula
