Poem -

FIVE HEARTS

Were you aware, daddy dear
That our mother would break
Depression and misery
Left in your wake

Were you aware, mother sweet
Five children did weep
Five children broke also
Tears pooled at your feet

Were you ever aware, both
Five little hearts died
Potential wiped out
By an oath cast aside

Trust and innocence
All washed away
On a river of anguish
Life's ladder frayed

Insecurities festered
Relationships died
Yet more children lostΒ
To a fear deep inside

And so it repeats
Bleeding hearts on the floor
Left by a parent
Who walks out a door
