FLICKERING FLAMES

a flicker of flame
raised high
to darks laughter

in trembling hands
supplicant
to hereafter

whispering
whispers
in urgency voice

hands rest on bosom
which clasp tight
a cross

for the rose
soon shall wither
upon cherubs brow

as the lily's wait patient
in a winged angel's
crown

and a flame
flickers out
to darks laughter.

Being Me

So dark!  I've read this a few times now and each time I get the feeling that it's about a person who is suicidal. I know it is a very dark poem but I do actually love this. It has been crafted so well x

Thankyou so much BM for pondering this...yes...death, one of my favourite subjects?...the reader always takes what they want from the words but you are right that my intention was an imminent death ...a suicide...a child death...whatever. I intended
the flame to represent the life
the dark...the sheer horror of life
The whispers to represent begging/ comfort/ direction/ madness??
The cross...a desperate faith
The rose being the bloom of life
and the lily's...the waiting coffin etc.
That was my intention so I'm so glad you 'got it' ...I love to experiment with different styles and voices
Thankyou so much my friend...greatly appreciated ?
