Flowers by the sidewalk
They don't mind being kicked by the jittery teenage boy walking his crush home, simply because of the way he looks at her. And how he's only partly listening to what she's saying because he is fascinated by the way her dimples appear each time she blushes.
They don't mind being crushed by the bike wheel of the child first learning to ride by themselves, simply because of the triumph on the child's face. And the pure joy radiating from the parents.
They don't mind being stepped on by the dog rushing to his owner's open arms, simply because of the sense of safety the dog feels once he reaches his owner. And the sense of being loved that the owner feels when the dog dances happily around her.
They don't mind being picked by the toddler and being brought to his mother as he babbles and giggles, simply because this is a moment the mother will cherish. And the satisfaction the toddler feels when his mother laughs and smiles at the flower.
They don't mind being the focus of a picture by the teenage girl trying to reconnect with herself, simply because of the way she looks away from the picture to see the real beauty. And how just by that little detail of the whole street, she had to stop and really recognize what she has been missing.
Next time you see a flower by the sidewalk, stop and admire it... they don't mind.
