For Such is the Nature of Earth

Water or woods
share you your haven
Swim Submerge and rise
to the mystery of Air
Where cotton tree seed pollen
Rides like the fairies
Oh I am so grateful for the rocks
Here is one almost completely round
Here is another
Speckled salt and pepper
The wind displays the trees like Lace
And the branches of trees make a music
Like stiff vertical drums and the leaves violins
Down the road my little dog
Does not notice the rabbit
Who is motionless
One finger of a great hand
That took the void and the darkness
and made
Layers of life with light and dirt and blades of grass
In the season summer
Even inside the city
Grass grows in concrete
And yes planted flowers
And if it is all paved over and lost to great great sorrow
I promise it will begin again
For such is the nature of earth
We ride her
Amidst a million stars
