For You

For You

I've been to hell and back,
I pushed my own way through.
But I want someone to fight for me,
As I once fought for you.

I protected all your flaws,
And made, for you, a home.
But when the new dawn broke,
You left me all alone.

I've never been fought for...
I wasn't worth the cost.
Every time I met someone new
I was reminded of who I'd lost.

As a child I read all the stories,
Of the princess being saved by her prince.
If I'm being truthfully honest,
It's all I've dreamed of since.

I've fantasized of my rescue,
From the cage I built in my mind.
Yet I realized all the Beautiful princesses,
Were the fairest and most kind.

I could never deserve a prince,
I was never the "queen-to-be".
The reason I wasn't rescued...
Was because I was simply me.

So I've tried to be that princess,
Facing challenge hill after hill.
Wondering if I'm worth fighting for,
Or if somebody ever will.
