Forced to Become a Phoenix

I heard the breaking glass; it woke me from my sleep. But I could not imagine why, the flames began to creep. Before I speculated, I called 911 right away. And to my amazement, they were not so fast that day. After eight rings or so, they asked the nature of my call. I told her my house was on fire, as it began to climb the wall. She asked me my address; I thought that she should be knowing. But as I gave her my information, the flames were already growing. I could see them heading for the ceiling, before she spoke again. She asked if I could see the fire, I could see it when it first began. She said to get out of the house, is there anyone else besides? I told her no, and then she said "Don’t go back inside." I waited for the Fire Department, patiently to arrive. I don’t understand what’s taking so long, as I stood there in the drive. And then the school bus came, the kids were home just in time. To watch the house they were raised in burn, & not be worth a dime. The driveway just became too hot; we needed to go across the street. The neighbors now are watching too, and we can all still feel the heat. Where in the hell is the fire department? The phone is still in my hand. The smoke is choking everyone; I can do nothing here but just stand. It has only been twenty minutes; but it feels like it’s been hours. The heat that my house is putting out, a crossed the street you can feel the power. As we all back up again, someone says, “I’m sorry for your bad day.” “I was just passing by, & I had to say I’m going home to pray.” It made me feel so good, that people I don’t even know, would go out of their way, to come up to me, and say that for me, they’re going to pray. At twenty five minutes, I see they are NOT going to save my house. Then one lonely pickup came to scene, alone he can’t even douse. Now as the fire licked at the neighbor’s roof, with its smoke & long reaching flames. The fire department finally arrived; with men I don’t know their names. My house is gone & cannot be saved, please save my neighbors now. They saved the neighbor’s house, but it was close, five more minutes, & WOW! As I looked through the burned out rubble of my house & all my memories scorched. I look around at what used to be; now I’m like a phoenix rising from the porch. I cannot dwell in yesterday, tomorrow comes to fast. I’m forced to become a phoenix, escaping from her past.
