Forgive us this day

Forgive us this day
Silver wheels land with a skid, small wisp of smoke and a bump
The country's brightest young President is in town.
Waving his way down the stairs, buttoning his jacket with one
hand with the Texas breeze blowing his wavy hair.
Then over to the people chatting and joking through the airport fence
Immaculate Jackie is carrying a dozen red roses and holding on to John's arm.
They climb into the back of an open top Lincoln Continental
Jackie lays the flowers on the black plastic seat.
It should have had a protective shield but John wants to be close and visible to his people.
At twelve thirty they are approaching downtown Dallas waving and charming as they go.
ONE : A bang,a ricochet and a fizz, the bullet hits a tree and flies wide of its mark.
TWO : A bang, and as the first signs of panic start the Presidents hand goes to his neck and he slumps forward slightly as Jackies arms go out to him
THREE : A bang, the last bullet smashes home and the Presidents brain disintegrates all thought is over.
His head flaps back shattered
His wife screaming is on the back of the car trying to climb out covered in her husbands blood .
Pandemonium breaks loose, security is everywhere and nowhere.
The car is gone in a flash of smoke,a squeal of tyres and a burst of speed
There is blood on Jackie, blood on the crowd, blood on the outriders blood just everywhere.
The crowd are running this way and that screaming and crying.
At Thirteen Hundred the hospital pronounce him dead.
Lyndon B Johnson is President two hours after JFK arrives in Dallas.
Walter Cronkite takes off his glasses and wipes his eyes and tells the nation that John has left them.
At the funeral Jackie holds the hand of her daughter wearing her long black Catholic veil.
John Junior in his little blue coat and his short trousers lets go of his mothers other hand and solemnly salutes as his father is laid to rest .

A tragic event well written about with a sweet sentiment at the end. I quite enjoyed this read
