Foster Kid

Too young to know why her parents did what they did
All she knows now is that she belongs to the state, a foster kid
She begs "please let my baby brother and sister come with me"
Nothing could be worse then what they came from. Crack pipes full, refrigerators empty
Absolutely frightened, she tells her babby brother and sister with a smile, it will all be ok
"where are we going?" She politely asks the driver as she looks into her rear view mirror
A foster home she replies, as the children looked in terror
"You won't see any of those bad people again," the lady said
"You will have a new family, hot food a nice warm bed".
"See this will be fun" The eldest tells the youngest, in secret doubt
We are here, your new home, you will see all the things you went without
Hello, nice to meet you, new mom and dad
This is my baby brother and sister, I guess you can say we've had it bad
But we won't cry, we won't bother, we won't take
All we want is a meal and your hand to shake
The months pass, we miss our mother so
But she was wrong, so we had to go
We like these people, they are a real family
But you are still here, mother, only a suppressed memory
Years pass and we have grown
We aren't sad, being a foster kid is the best we have ever known.
We are loved by a new mom, our hearts are mending
This was a true happy ending

Thanks for taking the time to read my poem. Yes it's Polish. And some people just get lucky I suppose. Social services programs like cps and aps don't have proper funding. Not enough social workers. It's easier to say yes we have those programs rather than provide an adequate service.
I also wanted to express how necessary it is to have known the bad in order to recognize the good
Hey amber . I do know some people who have been through foster parents and I have heard many horror stories over the years. It is one thing to take the kids away from their bad parents but to put them in a worst situation is very sad. You have a talent for writing different subjects . Hugs and my respect to you . Rock
With this piece I hope to inspire good people to take in foster children. I will admit, although a little personal, this poem is about me and my siblings. However this poem isn't talking about the first foster home we went to. Two previous foster homes were a nightmare. Then somehow cps let us go back with my mom, which didn't last long until we were taken to the foster home I speak of in this poem. I was truly blessed to have meet these wonderful people. Sometimes tragic stories do have happy endings. In my poetry I get very personal, because I treat it as a diary or a journal. None of you have ever meet me so there is no room to feel shame
Hey amber . It is a great poem no shame felt. I just know from friends that there are good foster parents and bad ones. I respect your work a lot . Best wishes to you rock
