Four Winds

Four Winds

So long and deep the endless dark
all forward motion seeming lost.
Through shuttered eyes no image seen
all hope to four winds, random cast

Tears long ago that burned with pain
Flow easy now and coursing free,
The hurt of loss a muted ache,
remembering what used to be

But life itself holds out a hand,
hurtĀ  tears just veiled the road to take,
no wish to place in jeopardy
a trustĀ  so fragile, ripe to break.

But as the sands that sweep through timeĀ
clear pathways new and still unknown.
A distant light, a beacon flames
the need to move ahead, alone

To hear the roar of change about
andĀ  know with clarity that now,
despiteĀ  the hardships of the past
those four winds bring me home.. somehow
