ON THE FRONT LINE

I interact with those in need of care every day
It's the work I do, it's the way I get pay
I see the tears, I share their fears
And its very difficult to silence the screams.
Mental and physical catastrophes
It's only by the grace of God that I've been excused
Of the excruciating pain that causes some to go insane
Many calling on Gods name, while others for their own safety
Should be restrained.
Before this new world of medical employment
I never knew of such sickness and diseases
Bravely employees render help needed
Exposing themselves to airborne agents
Which can cause one to become isolated by a sneeze.
I am that of a lineman who must pay keen attention
To the snap count and the play call
I must protect the quarterback at all times
The quarterback is everyone that enters the room
Which I have cleaned, sanitized with chemicals prescribed.
No, I am not a doctor learned in the art of medicine
Neither am I a nurse that fulfills the doctors request
I am just a housekeeper that cleans up the spills
Of those that are ill, sometimes I sing, or a cup of ice I bring.
I mop the floors, wiping walls and doors
Bathrooms must be kept clean at all times
Let's not forget ledges and blinds
In the course of the day I maybe asked to pray
Sometimes I just listen as they vent
Trying to make sense through that strong accent.
Well I can go on, but this write is long
So I'll save you the time and keep the rest
On my mind.
I am a housekeeper on the front line...
