ON THE FRONT LINE

I interact with those in need of care every dayÂ
It's the work I do, it's the way I get pay
I see the tears, I share their fears
And its very difficult to silence the screams.
Mental and physical catastrophesÂ
It's only by the grace of God that I've been excusedÂ
Of the excruciating pain that causes some to go insaneÂ
Many calling on Gods name, while others for their own safetyÂ
Should be restrained.
Before this new world of medical employmentÂ
I never knew of such sickness and diseasesÂ
Bravely employees render help neededÂ
Exposing themselves to airborne agentsÂ
Which can cause one to become isolated by a sneeze.
I am that of a lineman who must pay keen attentionÂ
To the snap count and the play call
I must protect the quarterback at all timesÂ
The quarterback is everyone that enters the roomÂ
Which I have cleaned, sanitized with chemicals prescribed.
No, I am not a doctor learned in the art of medicineÂ
Neither am I a nurse that fulfills the doctors requestÂ
I am just a housekeeper that cleans up the spills
Of those that are ill, sometimes I sing, or a cup of ice I bring.
I mop the floors, wiping walls and doorsÂ
Bathrooms must be kept clean at all timesÂ
Let's not forget ledges and blindsÂ
In the course of the day I maybe asked to prayÂ
Sometimes I just listen as they ventÂ
Trying to make sense through that strong accent.
Well I can go on, but this write is longÂ
So I'll save you the time and keep the restÂ
On my mind. Â
I am a housekeeper on the front line...
