Your favourite seat was occupied by an old lover,
you wouldn't have minded if it had been your mother,
that lover conjured up old memories of the past,
you should have known a 'temporary' wouldn't last.
There was an adjustment that went up and down,
even raised your back so you looked like a clown,
in fact, it flattened, until you were fully prostrate,
whether you would rise again was purely left to fate.
The lover was gone, a place in your life now vacant,
you knew that place would be occupied, intermittent,
they would come and go until my true love sat down,
fitted perfectly, like the chair, a beautiful shade of brown.
I didn't want to view again when my emotions were mixed,
the next time I buy a chair, I'll make sure the seat is 'fixed.'
