Poem -

Glass Civilians

There are people out there,

crying themselves to sleep.

Who get hurt,

by the tiniest of insults.

Who have been so scarred,

they barely hide it anymore.

These people are so gentle, delicate,

and easily broken.

Almost as if,

they're made of glass.

I once had an art teacher remark to another student, "Why can't you be more like him? When I tell him his artwork sucks he just smiles and says, 'Thank you, sir!'"

Apparently he didn't think I was "made of glass." The truth is that I just didn't particularly care about his opinion! However, I believe that we all have people in our lives whose opinions matter to us and that secretly have the ability to shatter our emotions, as though made of glass...

Very nice poem! Bravo!

I came across this quite by chance and was immediately drawn to the title. I understand the sentiment and like the simple way you have put it across. Enjoyed reading and thinking about it. Thanks.
