Glass Walls

why is it,

The blind see better

The deaf hear better

The mute speak louder

than me

we choose to block out everything unsavory,

out of sight out of mind

we choose to block out screams of the weak,

if you cannot hear it, it does not exist

we choose to block out the cries for help,

lies overshadow truth

why is it,

 The blind see better

The deaf hear better

The mute speak louder,

than me

if we have nothing to gain

we make no move to create change

greedy and vain is our country

that the voice of money speaks louder than,

the cries of a dying child

the curse of a widow

and the tears of a lost soldier

as they wonder what we are fighting for

these glass walls we built,

so delicate and easily broken;

yet stand tall and strong

a new isolationism,

The founders would be ashamed that,

The blind see better

The deaf hear better

The mute speak louder,

than me
