Goof off for a Living

Goof off for a Living

Picking guitar riding horses is the only thing  I want to do.
But I end up doing a whole lot of things that I really don't want to.
Like eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, buying horse shoes and hay.
People ask me all day long Why can't I give just one little ride away?

Yeah,

Gotta work harder than the rest if your gonna goof off for a living.
Me and my ponies out there giving our best you can see just what we're getting.
But I love to hear the laghter see the smiles on a child.
Sitting high upon my ponies thinking that the're free and wild.

In the evening light a campfire and drag out my guitar.
Singing harmony with coyotes and watch the rising stars.
I hope I made enough today so I can do it again tommorrow.
But all my needs are being met and I don't have to beg or borrow.

Yeah,

Gotta work harder than all the rest if you're gonna goof off for your Pesos.
See my senotita over the camp fire trying to barbaque tacos?
The girls are giggling at the marshmellows stuck to the face of my kid.
Looking around me know makes me happy I made the choices that I did.

Yeah,

Picking guitar, Ridding horses is the only thing that I really know.
On the weekends get togather with the boys go out and put on a show.
We're drinking draft beer because we spent our money on microphones and guitar strings.
We don't mind because we like to get up there as I try to sing.

Gotta work harder than all the rest if you'r gonna goof off for a living.
Me and the boys are giving our best you can see just what we're getting.
But we love to hear the laughter see the smiles in the crowd.
All these people on vacation playing like cowboys and getting loud.

Yeah.

Well done Danny.  I hear your words echoing from a honkytonk some where in the Dakota Badlands.
