Grandmother

I Remember when my grandmother
Use to be sitting in the gallery
And when she if needed anything
she uses to call one of my brothers or me
my grandmother was born deformed
But she never let her disability get in her way
She usee be walking up the road with her stick
Going to work in her garden everyday
my grandmother had one of the biggest garden
In the whole of usine Ste Madeleine village
it’s how many of her days were spentÂ
planting tomato corn, peas, peppers, cabbage
She would always be doing something all the time
she would just keep moving and could not sit downÂ
If she’s not with the chickens and duck in the back yard
She’s would be sewing and singing old Hindi songs
Many times we would sit around herÂ
and She would tell us so many great stories
Of fairy tales, folklore’s and legends
Full of so many intrigue and mysteries
And whenever there was a wedding in the village
They would send a car for her on Saturday nights
She would be singing with the drums and danthal
She was always the star in thespot lights
My grandmother took small tree branches and nylon ropes
and with different color nylon She would make Christmas trees
she would cut it and comb the ends to look thick and fluffyÂ
and when she wass finish it was the best tree you could see
And She would buy many different kinds of blow up animals
And forChristmas we would put them all over our gallery
Our gallery uses to be the most decorated in 2nd street
and as I write this today I can still see it in my mind so clearly
I wish I had talk to my grandmother about her childhood days
today there’s so much I would have like to know
About growing up with her mother and father, brothers and sisters
But you only think about these things after the time passed and go
Remember she use to tell us some stories of her childhood
how her big brother use carries her on his shoulders when she small
And while the others children use to be playing and running around
He would always stay with her and would not leave her alone at all
And would tell us how beautiful her mother wasÂ
And her father use to cherish and protect her like gold
So many history and stories and memories still to be known
but now it’s forever silence never to be told
If anyone reading this poem have a grandmotherÂ
go to them and talk to them learn about things you never knew,
try your best to bring them joy and happiness every day
and let them know the love that they have from you
When we are young we just don’t see it
Of all the history unfolding before our very eyes
And we will never really realize it
Until many years after our grandparent’s dies
A young girl will go through the stages of life
Then become a woman with a family too
Then one day you will hear the words “grandma
And when you look, around, they will be talking to you
Go to your grandmother today reach out a hand
Tell her how she is precious and dear
Tell her you love her so she will understand
cause one day you could wake and she will no longer be there
