Grave
I sold my soul
for some spare change
in hopes that some advice
would make my life less strange.
And so I left the change
on the grave of a wise man
who's essence came up and told me
to go get my own plan.
For if he knew a thing about love,
he wouldn't be in the ground.
He'd be on a loved one's mantle-
warm and cozy, safe and sound.
If I really wanted love and all its glory,
I would have to start a new story.
Love leaves the dead
he said.
Maybe that's why it's left you
he spew.
Maybe you're dead inside.
But I argued,
you see
that i was dead inside
because love had already left me.
And so we've gone in a circle
back to square one,
but isn't that what love is?
ending at the beginning by the time you're done?
And so I thanked the wise man
for his mortem
and wondered if death
was love's totem.

Gina,
I really enjoyed this reading,i liked the flow, very rhymatic. The way you placed the beginning of all things at its ending and the ending being possibly the beginning,(including the cross roads of a (dead) love affair)...Very wisely written and the flow was wonderful and truly free in styled but well worth a lot to your reader.....Job well done!...Enjoyed the entire poem and the lines of interest are as follows:
