Green Dream

Green Dream

Who watered the plants in heaven, St. Peter
kept them lush with perennials arranged in madrigals,
poetic analgesic soothed and calmed busy cherubs,
who sat on toadstools with Alice drinking from a golden chalice.

Green flamingos mocked the pink, asked what they think,
my colour is better than yours as they took a leggy pause,
heavenly apartheid as they told a tiger he was late,
he snarled and the 'greens' fluttered away to another day.

Alice brushed petals from her hair, pushed band back,
scattered remains in the rains, tiger plopped down;
hydrangeas waved, rippled as a sea in bright ecstasy,
frangipani scented, azaleas grinned as if they meant it.

Roses, carnations on missions to impress with love,
this was our exquisite garden for you in heaven above.
