Grief

Grief

The shadow of grief
brings the dark and cold
to the heart that lives
but is still,
choking the warmth
and light that
fade into barrenĀ
darkness and chill.

A lingering thief
the joy of life
stolen away,
only the silent tears
of fear and pain remain.

But through the black
rag of darkest night
a time to fall and rise
into the light upon
the sweet doveĀ“s flight
birdsong and falcon so bold.

Into this old world, a soul,
as fresh as the shining
morning grass dew,
that captures the smile
of the rising sunĀ
then awakens healed
to a new day
in the light of morning hue.

Grief so perfectly conveyed and depicted in this poem. You nailed it perfectly and I particularly enjoyed :
"Ā But through the black
rag of darkest night
a time to fall and rise
into the light upon
the sweet doveĀ“s flight
birdsong and falcon so bold."

Hi Robert, hope you are very well. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my poem and for leaving such a lovely, inspiring comment. Recently family members have passed away, so I felt compelled to write this. I tried to convey the emotions that members of my family have experienced in coming to terms with their loss. Thank you for your enjoyment of the verse that you mentioned. It means a lot. Thank you!
