The Grim Reaper

Scary Jack O’ Lantern , hollow eyes that shine so bright

Jagged mouth grimaces, cackling through the night

Moths dancing round the sculpture, attracted to the glow

Bats join the fun, circling the skies, they put on quite a show

Skeletons, witches and wizards, ghosts and goblins as well

The smell of fire and burning wood , a replica of hell

Toffee apples and parkin cake, treacle toffee that sticks to your teeth

Surrounded by mask covered faces, not knowing what lurks underneath

The sky looks so different on Halloween, it stages itself for the night

The stars hide -away behind the clouds, leaving the lanterns and fires for light

The silhouetted Grim Reaper steals the show and brings a chill to the air

A faceless stalker of victims, who it will be, he just doesn’t care

His costume is too realistic, perhaps it’s not a costume at all ?

The light’s playing tricks with my eyes, if not, he’s just walked through a wall !
