Guilty Pleasures (A poem written for a work colleague)

Guilty Pleasures (A poem written for a work colleague)

I asked you who your favourite singers are

Which bands make your favourite sound?

I was trying to establish if musically

We had any common ground

You weren’t very forthcoming

And I suspect it’s different tunes we’re humming

You like Bonobo

I like Elbow

At least their names sound vaguely the same

Everyone has their guilty pleasures

Artists who are much maligned

A lot of pop singers fall into this category

Justin Bieber springs to mind

I’ll confess that I have one or two

I don’t like Justin Bieber though

What comes between N and P in the alphabet?

Baby, baby, baby, O

There’s an ongoing joke in this place of work

That I’m a One Direction fan

There’s not an ounce of truth in that

I’m more of a Little Mix type of man

You’ve never joined in such conjecture

To me you’re honour-bound and dutiful

“Baby, you light up my world like nobody else

And that’s what makes you beautiful”
