HALF-LIFE

HALF-LIFE

HALF-LIFE

I remember when TV was a new invention
Who could imagine it would take all our attention?
As the conversation slowly died
I watched the great divide
Mark the beginning of social  suicide.
Now we are smothered in technology.
I have watched it change from novelty to necessity.
Watched an embrace give way to 'personal space'
And the vast cavity swallow  the 'I'  and 'me'
To replace it with a generic 'we'.
Each clone glued to an i-pod or  i-phone.
Messages delivered with icon smiles
To people not separated by miles
But within reach of a personal touch
Yet we cling to our electronic crutch.
Plugged in.
Connected.
Tuned out.
Disaffected.

BLOSSOM

An amazing piece of observational writing Susan.  Loved the way it was structured and the verse read so well.  Each line was so profound.  You are a master at this style Susan, a wonderfully clever and quite disturbing write.  Perhaps we should all get off our computers right now and have a 24 hour boycott lol!  A huge vote and nomination from me, great job:)

Thank you Rachel :D

I seem to write so many of these despairing poems lately...I don't know if its just that I am a dinosaur and hate the changes that are happening....I feel like I am living in a science fiction novel sometimes!

Thank you for your support too

Sad reality is without technology some of us wouldn't really exist, fading into the background unnoticed, very true , feelings, Susan Birch xx much love Nardine.

Thank you Nardine.  What really worries me is the utter dependence that young people have on technology for a social life.  Even when they are out together I have seen them clutching phones and staring at the screen...not talking to their companions.  Technology isn't essentially bad...total dependence on technology is chilling.

Thank you for your kind comments Nardine.

Yes i do see and understand the very point your are making in this write, i have a 12 year old daughter whom has a touchscreen laptop and mobile phone, i have to fight often to be heard as a mother, but i also am guilty of this without technology i wouldn't be writing this, or even have the amazing opportunity to communicate through Cosmo funnel, meeting you miss Susan birch, of which in very pleased to do so xx

Very insightfull and truthfull words. Sadly it seems to be the way personal meaningfull communication is being lost to texting and the smiley. Really intelligent write  Paul

Truly, what a write! I have seen many about this topic before, but the way you bring in your own story to it is fascinating. Deserved a pin!
