HAPPINESS versus CONTENTMENT

HAPPINESS versus CONTENTMENT

I am most merry
when merriment I offer.
I, born with a wild heart,
need the strings in tune
not so much the wits sharp.

Merriment is easy to obtain,
just a toast to the gods in the evening
and excitement will be hard to contain,
or a humble coffee in the morning
no need of milk and cake.
Ah, joy! a spark from heavens
--what a precious gift!
and a smile taken or given
--It certainly the spirit’s lift.

But happiness is another story,
short lived on the merry books
and fleeting as a champion
in the height of his glory.

Since happiness
may go to sleep under a tree
lying dormant
after heartbreaks follow,
today I’ll find some joy and be merry
as I don’t know what for me
will hold the tomorrow.

Isn't it strange... you're right B... true happiness is illusive but when felt the moments stick in the memory fully formed and eternal.  There are only several times in my life I have fully felt this..and strangely it was not in life's momentous and obvious occasions which come with stress . it's something different... maybe about the complete 'rightness'  of the moment and actually being fully aware of this inner thing... you know that this here, right now is priceless..

Well spoken Marion, I really like what you see. Awareness is the key, isn’t it?!    B

'Sunny Days will be here again.' An average day is a good day for me. The Hospital visit is on Thursday. Wish Me Luck. 🩵

What makes me happy, is waking up after long hour awake in the middle of the night, feeling I could add a few grams of lead to my head for not having done xxxx the day before and see somebody smile at me, even before coffee. Then I can run around all day doing things thst help other people... Alas, there is always the night again... Perpetuum mobile and yet still alive🤣 at almost 65... Ever seen the move Short Circuit? Those ate moments I tell the wife: Johnny Five is Alive🎉. Hanx for the write❤️

John Loopstra, great to have you here! Very much alive and still kicking, aren’t you?! Here in New Zealand we like to say: “Any day above the ground is a good day.”
I understand what you’re saying.
What really makes me happy are the little and simple things in life.
The bigger things make life easier and give comfort, but not to be confused with happiness.
Anyway, I appreciate very much you sending me your thoughts on my humble reflections.
P.S.  I did use a few words from my old poem, but it’s okay, I reckon.

Happiness comes if there is no (re-)demand in life and happy life is the contentment period of life... great to read you

Oh B, I've rushed ahead of the comments to say the first stanza, in this one's little experience of women, rings true. Very amusing to me. The other thing, coincidentally, today was thinking, if it be all that eastern stuff consumed as a kid, that so fleeting a happiness as is power. That like power, happiness is not acquired but discovered within. You always had it, and one cannot loose what was born within, not truely. What if happiness is not an acquirement but a discovery, something lasting?

Very good question, Rory. We don’t have the answer but we can always question, which I
think it’s more important. Something lasting? Quite possible, if we think happiness is a
state of mind. As everything is a state of mind. A discovery, you say? I really like that!
Meanwhile, the chase, or should I say striving for happiness continues.

What a good reflection you’re having here, Marion. You’re making me think, thank you for that. Many hugs,     B
