Hat’s Off To A Great American

Hat’s Off To A Great American

The United States has lost a hero, a Patriot so very great;
Who fought for his beloved country, and survived an early fate!
Shot down while on a mission, then captured by the Viet Cong;
Spending over five years at the “Hanoi Hilton”, but would not sing their song!
.
They tortured him unmercifully, rebroke his mended bones;
But name, rank, and serial number, was all his lips would moan!
Finally, the war was over, prisoner exchanges were then made;
John McCain came back to his country, great medals on him were laid!
.
After twenty years of service, he ended his military career:
To enter into politics, with his values very dear!
First, in the House of Representatives, in nineteen eighty-two;
Then, four years later elected Senator, his popularity grew!
.
He made a run for President, in the year two thousand eight;
He might have been successful, had it not been for his running mate!
Then for ten more years he fought hard, to protect our Democracy;
Oh, Dear John, you’ll always be our hero, and in our hearts you’ll ever be!
.
.
                                             A hero left us
                                     But his legacy lives on
                                     Hail to the “real” Chief

Hello Larry...

I heard on the news today they're honoring him in D.C.

I still don't understand why we have to wait until, they're dead...

Maybe, I will never know...

Great write!

Thank you for sharing...

Hugs...

My Dear sparrowsong,

Yes, sparrowsong, posthumous honor would certainly be the second choice of most people.
I am so happy that you enjoyed my tribute.
