Confinement
This Lt. saw 
a 19 year old Offender
burning his 
Mattress
in retaliation 
against the officers
who wrote him up
for traffic and trading....

The young man
was from head to toe
branded with
prison tattoos
appearance
in the outside
world does
not matter
when you 
have a 40 year sentence
for robbery

A sentence
that would
have been 10 years
if the public defender
cared enough 
to put some
sort of effort
in his client's
case....

Offender Williams
learned how to 
steal before
he was able to
walk
His mother
was more
concerned
with shooting
up than caring
for her son
Offender Williams'
father was doing time
in prison, before he 
was born....
This Kid never had a chance

Having the reputation
of being fair
and consistent
the Lt. managed
to get the offender
to comply with his 
orders, yet restrictions
were given

Over the months
the Lt. would stop
by cell 214
to encourage
Offender Williams
to use his time
to read
rather then hustle
on the block
Maybe the advice
soaked in
Maybe it didn't
regardless
this Life does matter..........................
