He was here
He was here—
When God spread the sun at the sky
Also, when God set the moon in the sky,
Â
He laughed betwixt the spread and the set:
He laughed at the sunrise,
Also, smiles at the gathering of the cloud.
When the moon splashed beautiful brightness,
With its blistering beam at dim
He was there;
Bur when God took the sun at the dusk
And when the moon blinked for a farewell
He has gone,
He has gone
When the sound of early morning chicken mocked my ears,
Even when I emptied the seashore in search.
He has gone
When I swept the floor of Misebbo
Even when I tore down the Tukpa bridge
He has gone when I rinsed the dusty soil of Benin Republic.
Even when I rend the garment of Nigeria border.
He was not here–
When I emptied the dirty sea of TukpaÂ
Even when I raised the floor mat of existence.
