Henry the Eighth
If electronic surveillance extant at height of British sovereignty
many a coup d'etat
would disallow his trumped accusations against a team of rival
whereby history rewritten would witness him thrown off dethrone as:
Henry the ninth sat by his hearth mulling the fate
of Henry's one through eight.
Henry the First, a fierce drinker o gin
I knew not his wife, I knew not his kin
I knew not his toils his trouble or sin.
I know naught of that England, the land of his birth
nor what caused him to be laid in the earth
perhaps on account of his outsize girth.
Nor do I know of Henry two, three or four
though I know nada much about such mystifying lore
there then came four more
each of them astride the throne for a brief tour.
But the one that I truly know was alive
was one that called Henry the five
who attempted with the madding crowds to jive.
Five was a Henry a nine can certainly rely
Five Henry William Shakespeare would comply
A king tall as buckwheat or rye
who stood up to French as England clamored for dastardly guy.
He swore to avenge the taking of lands
to take back with his very own hands
and shed blood in fight contra bands
while in England men slept with daggers against brigands.
Nines tens, and twenties look back on that day
remember men willing to die for each other
long as men breathe they will say
that England born from blood brother oath oye vay.
As for the Henry's six, seven and eight
Perhaps, none of them not so great
each outdid the other as harsh master with laws most did hate
nor none of those kings pleased with their mate
since none did not sire male heir – the guillotine did not wait!
