In Her roses

I peer out the window and there

My mother was tending to her white roses

and pulling away the weeds

I smile

She looked up at me

She smiled

Oh, how much she loved her flowers

Oh, how much time she labored to see them grow

When done, she would look up at her roses

And smile

Winter came

The flowers gradually faded

The weeds began to wither

There was no one in the garden

Because Winter had taken their gardener

My mother

No more smiles

I cried, mourned

Felt weight down wherever I looked

I saw her in the kitchen

I saw her at the piano

I saw her in Her roses

Months went by and spring was approaching

We still missed her

but were slowly recovering

We were going to see her

The grave

Before we left, I visited the garden

a few flowers and several buds

I smiled

I pulled away the weeds

I cut a couple of Her roses for her

And as I was leaving

I looked up at the garden

and smiled

I saw her in Her roses

I will face hardship and trials in this life

And though I will face them

without my mother's guidance

I will still have her

In my heart

In my memory

In Her roses
