High One

The Hooded Man

High One

Thank you for being there when my father didn’t want to,

For giving me the words and drive to continue,

You looked with both eyes through my one sided window,

Your my water in the summer sun and salt sinking serene snow,

You always watched closely but kept your distance,

You spoke sweet nothings thinking I never listened,

You gave me breath from a simple ash tree,

You shared your wisdom from the mead of poetry,

You kept your word even when mine was broken,

You took a chance with me and now I’m returning what’s stolen,

You learned to master fury and might something I’ve yet to do,

You died nine times with a spear in your side and pulled the sacred runes,

Your thoughts and memories fly down to speak with me,

Your eye rests in the well of Urd and from there after ragnarok you’ll see.
