Poem -

High School

You start year one
Young and naive.
Your life shifting around,
Like sand in a sieve.

You try to stay high
And mighty above all.
But quickly learn that
Gives you a harder fall.

You get beaten down
More than once,
And yes, you will most likely
Feel like a dunce.

You continue to climb back up
The ladder of success,
And yes, of course you
Will be under stress.

You finish year one with a
Final sigh of relief.
You take a short break and
Turn over a new leaf.

You come back around
For the start of year two.
You even discovered something
About yourself that you never knew.

Your classes are harder,
And work you almost to death.
But just as the hooded figure appears,
You get a big, revitalizing breath.

You truck on all year,
And get your first mate.
You guys are always happy,
And go on lots of dates.

Holidays come and go,
And after another New Years,
You guys break up and of course,
There's tears.

Life goes on,
It doesn't wait.
You rest for a moment,
And you'll end up being late.

Second year's completed,
And you shout HOORAY.
You go on home and
Enjoy the long summer days.

Three months later
you're in an intersection,
To start year three
With a new sense of direction.

You finally get the good teachers,
All the ones who are fun.
And you aren't failing your classes
At the end of quarter one.

You get into clubs,
And start enjoying everything.
You even find a talent,
And join Drama to sing.

You become an inspiration,
To everyone you know.
You preform even better,
After it snows.

The winds are changing,
And so is the tide.
With the weather springing up,
So is your new ride.

You get another mate,
And they're your whole life.
You even consider them to be
Your husband or wife.

You finish the year
With outstanding success
And enter the summer

With the everlasting feeling of endless recess.

The time flies by
And next thing you know,
It's the first day of school,
For the fourth year in a row.

You can't help be smile
As you walk with your mate.
Down the familiar halls,
Shaping your fate.

Teachers are better than
Any year before,
And you're grades are still high,
And that's a huge score.

You get into honor societies
And lots of activities.
You are the star in the musical,
And gain even more responsibilities.

You're growing up fast,
And they spring on you,
The one idea that isn't
At all new.

You start looking for higher
Means of education.
And having to choose a
Life of dedication.

You finally decide
And apply to a lot.
You get accepted to many
And have to give them some thought.

You make your decision
Right before it's too late,
And then the next week
You're wiping your slate.

As you float across that stage
And receive your scroll,
You get the feeling, after four years,
Of finally being whole.

You shake hands
And smile for the crowd,
And then head down
To show your parents you're proud.

Hugs are exchanged,
And love is given.
And after today,
You're next chapter is ready to be written.
