Poem -

Hillbilly Haven

Whenever I'm away from home-
My voice to a stranger will give way-
To a conversation about my mountain home-
Such happened just today!

With a knowing smile, he called me a Hillbilly!
His friend's face went instantly graven!
I told him I was, and could not wait to get home.
I missed my Hillbilly Haven!

He laughed and told me he understood!
It turned out his family roots were here.
We went on and spoke an hour!
His memories of West Virginia so dear!

I invited him to come home again-
You see, the mountains are ever true-
To those whose pilgrimage leads them home!
Time soon took wings and flew.......

We bid farewell with our hearts so light!
West Virginia Hillbillies know what I mean!
There is a bond.....a kinship......
Even in a voice, where she is unseen!
