Horace's Holiday

Horace the hedgehog came out of his burrow,

his face was all worried, his brow was quite furrowed.

"I don't quite know what to do,"he thoughtfully said,

as he carefully raked his neat flowerbed.

-------------------------------------------------------------

"A holiday's something I've wanted to do,

but there's so much at home that I have to do too.

I'll call on my friends, ask them for suggestions,

perhaps they'll be able to answer my questions."

----------------------------------------------------------

He set off for the river to see Otter, his friend,

the problem was driving him right round the bend.

He stood on the bank, and called out loud and clear,

but wherever he was, Otter just didn't hear.

-------------------------------------------------------------

He walked a bit further, calling out still,

then he slipped in the mud there, and slid down the hill.

He fell into the river with a terrible splash,

and the fast current there carried him off in a dash.

------------------------------------------------------------

Past house and villages, churches and schools,

as he floated along there, he felt such a fool!

He didn't feel comfy,. he was soaked to the skin,

but the folk on the bank there just sat there and grinned!

--------------------------------------------------------------

"My quills are all wet now", he said with dismay,

"I wonder just where I will end up today?

I'm all waterlogged, and I'm wringing wet too!"

When just then the ocean came into his view!

------------------------------------------------------

The waves were just ripples, the water was calm,

and he soon realised that he'd come to no harm.

The lifeguards came quickly, he was soon in their boat,

and they dried him off quickly and gave him a coat.

-------------------------------------------------------

He was landed quite safely on the dry sandy beach,

he was given a towel, a drink, and a peach.

he thought,"This is great, I think here I'll stay!"

and that was the start of his great holiday!
