Horse of a Different Color
Inspired by Cherie Sumner’s Masterpiece, “Stallion on the Beach”
.
.
One day the sun was shining bright, as I walked along the sea;
All at once, I heard raging hooves, fast approaching me!
Then there he was, this magnificent horse, so wild and untamed;
He pulled up and he whinnied twice, horse talk for his given name!
.
He bent his knees and bowed to me, so I could mount him for a ride;
No saddle hold, so I used his mane, a great source of his pride!
Then off we ran through the pounding surf, my heart was just alike;
A while later, we came to rest, my emotions highly spiked!
.
I took an apple from my sack, and placed it in my palm;
He came and softly lifted it, his gentility kept me calm!
I took my towel, and wiped him down, he neighed, said “It felt good”;
After that, I touched his face, my love he understood!
.
He reared up once, then off he flew, disappearing in ocean’s mist;
I never will forget that day, for my soul he truly kissed!
Now, like him, I’m ever free, my heart e’er leads the way;
Thanks to this “Horse of a Different Color”, I met on that most glorious of days!
.
.
