Hunger
A poem about food banks & starvation

Hunger...
Hunger is the colour of a food bank referral,
Hunger is bleeding,
Hunger is pleading,
Hunger lies silent on the faces of strangers,
Alone they compete in vain to feel normal,
Clothes are ironed, body is clean,
To the untrained eye, just another commuter,
They queue like all others for a bus or a metro,
You catch their eye & smile, safe in contentment,
Free from the knowledge that their life holds resentment,
For hunger is silent, hunger is shame,
Not a rat race contender for the last seat on the train,
Their clothes are ironed, their face is clean,
Where do they work, how do they play?
A face in the crowd, no distinction from another,
They don't look like failure, no need for complaint,
Hunger is silent, hunger is pain,
Hunger does not hold up a sign,
For fear of judgement on life they're resigned,
Hunger is fear, yet remains silent,
Hunger lies dormant for fear of resentment,
Hunger is bleeding,
Hunger is pleading,
Hunger is the colour of a food bank referral.

????. Very good work! The food bank has sadly become a part of everyday life for some. And the really scarey thing is that there are many working families who still cannot afford the necessities in life.... Like food.
You have written a lot of poems here. I tend to trawl through poems and read the ones that catch my eye. I also read the ones who I know to have been written by decent writers. Sometimes, of course, I do miss things and the odd masterpiece escapes my attention.
You are a good writer and I will definitely read more of your work x
Thankyou, this poem was written from experience x
